That thing called "America"

America
Another poem by Walt Whitman that I found dearest. It just portrays America and why we love our country. That besides the fact the we are of popular interest that we have meaning behind our name. We fought for equality within our own regions to prove the point that we are all equal. Equal. Something that seems to come up a lot. He mentions "equal daughters, and sons" and aren't we all daughters and sons? Not only about the equality in our nature but how we are mentally as a whole and physically. America was made out of the Freedom we demanded, the love for each other and the law that binds us together.
Centre of equal daughters, equal sons,
All, all alike endear’d, grown, ungrown, young or old,
Strong, ample, fair, enduring, capable, rich,
Perennial with the Earth, with Freedom, Law and Love,
A grand, sane, towering, seated Mother,
Chair’d in the adamant of Time.

Walt as in Whitman

During the 1800's born was a man named Walt Whitman, who was a journalist. He liked to create poetry which was said to be influenced by music. Walt's type of poetry was like no other but a unique spin which was called “freelance journalism”. When it came to writing his poetry I believe you would categorize him as a Realist because he chooses to take life situations and creatively twist them; not only that but he takes his own life and puts them in his poetry.
Favorite Poem: Song of the Open Road
Henceforth I ask not good-fortune, I myself am good-fortune, Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing, Done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulous criticisms, Strong and content I travel the open road.

The Life

Sophomore seems like it's going to be a fun year, but I'm ready for it to kick it into high gear. Today I was elected on the homecoming court with my bestfriend Sai-Vaughn. It's really an awesome moment in my life, one I didn't realize. Anyone who knows me knows that I play sports. Those are going well, I'm really ready for basketball season though. And as the days progress, it seems my year keeps getting shorter and that my friends are changing each and everyday to the young adults I know that we all are going to be. Now we are to the age where we will be driving and I'm really excited. Each day I look forward to an eventful school day and it hasn't failed me yet.
